UMKC Downtown Conservatory of Music & Dance

Developing a visionary new campus in the heart of Kansas City

In December 2011, The University of Missouri- Kansas City (UMKC) retained Helix Architecture + HGA Architects to undertake the Program Planning Study for a new Downtown Arts Campus. The study focused on preliminary building program and budget, a conceptual site development plan and a site assessment. As a result, UMKC elected to move forward with design of a new Conservatory of Music & Dance in Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District. In 2014, the same Helix + HGA team was selected to design the new facility. Input from the university and community was utilized to design a solution to support UMKC’s mission of excellence in arts education and serve as a cultural catalyst for downtown Kansas City.
