What We Do

Richard Bolling Federal Building Renovation

Modernizing a mid-century landmark without uprooting the workforce

Originally constructed in 1962, the Richard Bolling Federal Building has become a recognizable landmark on the Kansas City skyline. Known as a “City within a City,” Helix and partner firm GastingerWalker& provided architectural, design, engineering, abatement, and construction management services for the $250 million, 18-story, 1.2 million square-foot office building renovation. The modernization utilized invisible construction without displacing any of its 30 tenant agencies. Since the renovation, tenants have reported taking fewer sick days and increased talent recruitment. The project received a National GSA Design Award and is acknowledged as a standard against which all other projects of its size are to be measured.

Location: Kansas City, MO

“Throughout the project, your leadership and coordination was paramount to the success of the renovation. It has been a true pleasure working with all the professionals at Helix over the past 14 years.”
